Wilfried Dsainbayonne lives and works in Lille. After graduating from ESA – Tourcoing with a master’s degree in visual arts with honors in 2017, he joined the inter-school artistic research program “Migration Murmuration” as a guest artist-researcher until 2019. Here, he is pursuing his research into the narrative charge possessed by objects, set in context with stories and environments that they invest in or create.
He is the winner of a Tremplin residency at CAC Espace Croisé in 2020 and a research residency at Artistes en Résidence in 2023, where he continues to develop research projects linked to diverting the expected uses of objects. He focuses on finding new gestures and rituals from everyday life.
In 2020, he co-founded a production space with Paul Ralu as part of the Saisons Zéro project in Roubaix. This space is conceived as a shared workshop where tools, know-how and space circulate between the seven permanent artists.
At the beginning of 2025, he worked at the Lycée polyvalent Les Lombards in Troyes, with Mrs. Maria-Elena Palamenga in the Première Bac Professionnel Menuisier class, and Mrs. Camille Saccoccini in the Première Bac Professionnel Maintenance des systèmes de production connectée class, for a globalized support project (PAG).
As part of this project, students will be asked to reflect on and produce new tools, gestures and forms derived from their studies, but also from personal and/or collective narratives.
“Tooling our narratives” suggests the idea of equipping or structuring narratives with tools, whether figuratively: methods, gestures, creative approaches, or literally: material or metaphorical tools that help construct a narrative.
It’s also the idea that the act of making tools or objects is a narrative act in itself.
A visit to the Maison de l’outil et de la pensée is planned to enable students to discover a museum featuring a collection of over 12,000 tools.
