Entering an exhibition by Sarah Fauguet and David Cousinard instantly soothes our aesthetic fears, before immersing us in the magma of a world closing in behind us. The encounter is like diving into thick, murky water. And everything goes wrong, and we’re swept away. Their generous work doesn’t inhabit the space, it turns it upside down, skins it, prevents it, counters the permanence of the place to replay it in its entirety. It asserts a presence that shakes our certainties about what we expect from art. Clearly, all this is not a charming rendezvous, it’s a head-on collision that leaves its mark on the mind.”
